We are proud to be a positive reinforcement based facility!  No matter how big or small, young or old, with positive reinforcement training you and your pup will not only learn, but will bond together through the training process. Positive reinforcement is a reward-based training method that has been proven to help with replacing unwanted behaviors with rewarding desirable ones. If your dog is struggling with biting, jumping, chewing, anxiety or aggression issues, household or leash manners, our trainers are able to help through positive reinforcement-based training, which avoids any harmful, stressful or anxiety ridden training methods. Our goal is for your dog to be mentally satisfied while finding more confidence in themselves throughout the training process.

What Is Positive Reinforcement?

When you were a child did your parents ever give you money or a gift for getting good grades?  If so, than they were using positive reinforcement!  Dogs don’t care about money. They care about praise—and food or toys. Positive reinforcement training uses a reward for desired behaviors. Because, the reward makes them more likely to repeat the behavior, positive reinforcement is one of your most powerful tools for shaping or changing your dog’s behavior long term.  This methodology is at the heart of everything we do at Bed & Bark.  We do not punish dogs by yelling.  We don't use aversive methods such e-collars or  prong collars and we certainly don't use force when handling them.  We use treats, praise and a whole lot of love to help your dog understand exactly what  it is that we would like them to do.

The truth is that while live in-person training is a phenomenal tool, much of the ongoing work will be done at home by pet parents.  That is why we recommend Baxter & Bella, the online puppy school, in addition to our in person training.  Their online curriculum is easy to digest and can be completed whenever pet parents have time.  Their lifetime membership also includes virtual access to their trainers if you have any questions you would like answered.  Click the Baxter & Bella logo to sign up today!
